Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice

September 2, 2010

Donna Louise Haigh is our Fundraising Manager based in Yorkshire, Donna is dedicated to raising funds and awareness for this wonderful charity by approaching businesses across Yorkshire looking for the best way to help them promote their services whilst helping Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice. Help support Donna in her quest to raise as much as possible by joining us at CD Today!

Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice offers care and support to children with life limiting conditions who are not expected to reach adulthood, both in their own homes and at our hospice in Sheffield.

Bluebell Wood is a place filled with laughter and love, giving families the chance to relax, take a break and have funwith help and support for the whole family.

It costs £2.5 million every year to offer this support. With no statutory government funding, without the help of supporters they simply couldn’t help all the children that they do.

There are only 40 children’s hospices in the country, so the area they look after covers all of South Yorkshire, North-East Derbyshire, North Lincolnshire and North Nottinghamshire.

The help given to families depends entirely on their needs, but can cover:

  • Residential stays in the hospice, where a child can be looked after and mum and dad can have a break too
  • Day care services
  • Help in families’ own homes
  • Accompanying families to hospital visits
  • Looking after brothers and sisters
  • End of life care and support
  • Friendship, and a helping hand whenever it is needed

Bluebell Wood always have lots of fun things going on, keep checking the website for the latest news and events!

Hounds for Heroes

July 17, 2010

Announcing the arrival of Hounds For Heroes, a new and innovative charity whose aim is to place highly trained assistance dogs with injured and disabled service men and women and personnel from the emergency services.

The purpose of “Hounds For Heroes” is to provide specially trained assistance dogs to injured and disabled men and women of both the UK Armed Forces and Civilian Emergency Services. Through this provision our aims are to provide help and practical support, leading to an enhanced quality of life for our clients.

We are now formally registered with the Charities Commission and are in a fortunate position of having the experience of other assistance dog organisations both in the UK and Worldwide to draw upon. We can use their knowledge of what works and what doesn’t which will make us more cost effective in our operation.

Our first major offensive is the “Puppies on Parade Appeal” where we intend to raise £100,000 so that we can buy, train and support our first five Hounds of Heroes. Our first puppy has already been named Juno after the D Day beach and it is the charity’s intention that all dogs will have a service related names.

There are over 900,000 injured servicemen and women in the country today, yet only a handful of those have chosen to have a life enhancing assistance dogs. Hounds for Heroes intend to promote the dogs as badges of honour and ability. It is very difficult to explain to those that have never experienced it, but within the services there is a very special camaraderie built of trust, loyalty and team work and we hope to replicate that in the partnering of our clients with a Hounds For Hero dog. Our dog’s jackets will bear the service emblem of the clients regiment, ship, squadron etc. Any medals awarded will be embroidered on to the dog’s jacket. These are our people, both military and civilian, who routinely put their lives on the line, as part of their duty, and as a nation we should be looking after them.

Taking Flight Theatre Company

May 25, 2010

Taking Flight Theatre Company is an “exciting and innovative” professional theatre company.   Working to break down the barriers which can prevent participation in the arts and creating accessible theatre in exciting venues.

Taking Flight Theatre is based in Cardiff, Wales and the work has two strands.   The first strand is running workshops to increase confidence, learn transferrable drama skills and improve mobility – for disabled, non disabled and sensory impaired adults.  The second strand is professional promenade theatre productions using a cast of disabled, non disabled and sensory impaired actors touring to outdoor venues in Wales.

Dedicate a Star!

To help fund our production of Romeo and Juliet and pay our wonderful volunteers expenses, Taking Flight are running a Dedicate a Star scheme – for a donation of your choice (£10 and over) you can dedicate a star to someone special. The stars will be hanging in the woods and ruins we perform in this summer and you will receive a certificate thanking you for your kindness.

Taking Flight still has no permanent office and is in great need of the space, we also have no core funding.  Although we have received project based funding from the Arts Council Wales and The Millennium Stadium Charitable Trust, this does not pay for core administration costs over the year.  Had we either an office or core funding it would make our work much easier, we could reach more people and the sky would be the limit!

The Food Train

May 25, 2010

The Food Train is a grocery shopping, befriending and household support service for older people in Dumfries &   Galloway.

It began in 1995 following a community survey of older people that found many of them struggling with their weekly grocery shopping; an idea was developed to ease this burden on older people.  A partnership of local shops and volunteers formed and Food Train was born, becoming a limited Company in 1995. Charitable status was awarded in 1996 followed by Domiciliary Care approval by the Local Council in 1997.

Food Train is extremely grateful to all the volunteers, local grocery stores, businesses, organisations and people that provide much needed help, support and advice – without them we would have no services to offer.

This local charity needs your help and you can give this by joining the many businesses in the area taking a listing in our directory and supporting The Food Train.

Morag our Fundraising Manager in Dumfries and Galloway is contacting businesses in the area for their support; many local businesses are already helping The Food Train by joining Countryside Directory. Support this wonderful charity from as little as 5p per day, promote your business and help this very worthy local charity. Please email morag@countrysidedirectory.co.uk for further information.

Southwest Scotland RnR

May 22, 2010

Southwest Scotland RnR is a charitable organisation dedicated to conveying the thanks of the people of South West Scotland, to the members of our Armed Forces, who have had to operate in conditions beyond our ken.

They extend a warm Scottish welcome, and provide a well deserved holiday based around outdoor pursuits in the Dumfries and Galloway area for personnel returning from an operational tour and to the wounded injured in earlier tours.

Their ethos is one in which they want to leave the servicemen and women, who holiday with them, with the certain knowledge that their commitment and sacrifice is appreciated by local men and women in our corner of Scotland.

All this takes a large amount of funding and Morag our Fundraising Manager in Dumfries and Galloway is contacting businesses in the area for their support, many of these local people are helping by joining Countryside Directory. Support this wonderful charity from as little as 5p per day, promote your business and help this very worthy local charity.

LIVES-Responders

July 29, 2009

LIVES-Responders are about to start an exciting new project to place a Defibrillator into every School in Lincolnshire, at fifteen hundred pound a school and with 300 schools you can see this is a huge but necessary project. The main newspaper in Lincolnshire, the Lincolnshire Echo, has agreed to give LIVES 1 full page a week for a year to help promote the project. Any business that is backing this project will receive space on the page for their logo throughout the year.

Licolnshire Show

July 21, 2009

linlogoThe Countryside Directory was kindly invited to share a stand with the Lincolnshire charity LIVES-Responders, at the Lincolnshire show on the 24th and 25th of June. LIVES were nominated as the charity of the year for this prestigious show which was also attended by HRH Princess Anne.

One of the main aims of the Countryside Directory is to get local businesses to support their local charity and provide an affordable platform for them to advertise their services. The Licolnshire show also gave us the opportunity to bring awareness to the public that we are a business directory with a difference.

Be sure to use the Countryside Directory for your business needs. The businesses advertising with us are ethical people who are doing their bit for the local charities within supporting the community.

Steve from Lives says:

Our biggest problem is getting the message out there that we are not funded in the way other emergency services are, we rely on the kindness of the public and shows like this.
